One Day Everest Helicopter Tour Overview

If you’re looking for an exceptional way to see the captivating Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan ranges, consider a helicopter tour to Everest Base Camp. Your adventure begins with an early morning domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, an enticing Sherpa village that serves as the gateway for Everest region trekkers.

Once you’re in Lukla, your helicopter refuels. Our next stop is at Phakding, where passengers will be divided into two groups of 2 and 3 people, and we will fly one group at a time. From there on, we continue our journey towards Everest Base Camp, allowing you to witness the world’s tallest mountain and other enthralling peaks such as Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. You’ll also enjoy excellent views of the Gokyo Valley, Gokyo Lakes, and the Khumbu Glacier, ideally located between Everest and the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge.

After we fly over to the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, we head back for breakfast. You’ll have breakfast at one of the world’s highest-located hotels, Everest View Hotel in Syangboche, which is probably the grandest way to enjoy a meal, surrounded by sky-high mountains. Considering the weather conditions, you’ll have about an hour for breakfast and to capture the moment.

As you fly back to Kathmandu, you’ll get close-up views of the Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges, concluding your flight with an aerial view of the entire Kathmandu Valley. This helicopter tour to Everest is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular ways to experience the Himalayas of Nepal.

Important Note: As this is a flyover trip, the helicopter won’t be landing at Kala-Patthar and will do a flyover instead.

Altitude Sickness and Remedies

Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), occurs when you ascend to high altitudes too quickly, typically above 2,500 meters (8,200 feet). The risk increases significantly at elevations above 5,000 meters (16,400 feet). You may experience symptoms like headaches, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath in the higher altitudes.

These are the symptoms of Altitude sickness. You should stay hydrated, eat a high-carb diet, and avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise. If symptoms occur, rest, descend to a lower altitude, and consider medications like acetazolamide. In severe cases, you should look for immediate medical attention.

Weather and Climate

A one-day helicopter tour of Everest offers a unique experience to witness the world’s highest peak. The weather is often unpredictable. At higher altitudes, temperatures can be freezing. At lower levels, conditions are milder. Clear mornings are ordinary, providing stunning views, but clouds and winds can develop quickly in the Himalayas. The weather during the Spring and Autumn seasons is pretty stable compared to other seasons.

Climate considerations are crucial for safety and visibility. The best months for such tours are typically from March to May and September to November when weather conditions are relatively stable and favorable. The temperatures during these months range between 5-20 degrees Celsius during daytime.
