Manaslu Trek is one of the best underrated trekking destinations in Nepal. It is a less-traveled destination with little popularity, making it a peaceful journey. Taking this trail, you will witness scenic views of Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world at 8,163 meters above sea level. It also offers views of snow-capped mountains, such as Ganesh Himal to the east and the Annapurna Region to the west.

The Manaslu region is above the foothills of the Gorkha district. In the lower areas, you will find people of various ethnicities like Brahmins and Chettris. You will meet the Gurung people, who follow Tibetan Buddhism as you go higher. The Manaslu circuit starts in the warm lowlands with rice and millet terraces. It then takes you through the deep gorges of the Budi Gandaki River. The suspension bridges in this area are very high and long, making them quite an experience.

Manaslu Trek Difficulty

We Naata Travel & Adventures offers you with 18 days trek around the Manaslu. Although we make it with your comfort in mind, it has certain difficulties. The Manaslu trek is moderately challenging. Nestled at an elevation of 5,110 meters, the trek is quite demanding and requires you to be physically fit.

The terrain you pass by is rough, along with the length of the trek. Also, with high elevation, there is a huge chance for you to get altitude sickness.

Furthermore, the climate while trekking to the Manaslu region is unpredictable. You will encounter hot and humid conditions in the lower areas, while the temperature significantly drops with higher elevations. Preparing for various weather conditions, including sun, rain, and snow, would be best. Also, this trail requires walking for 5 to 7 hours and covering a distance of 10 to 18 kilometers. Overall, with proper preparation and planning, you can complete this trek.

Manaslu Trek Trail and Route

The Manaslu Trek will take you on a journey around Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world, starting from Arughat. As you ascend, you will cross the Budhi Gandaki River on sturdy bridges and trek through dense forests of pine and rhododendron trees. Moving forward, you will pass through many traditional Buddhist monasteries.

Further along, you will reach higher altitudes. You cross the challenging terrain of the Larkya La Pass, the trek’s highest point. From there, you will enjoy panoramic vistas of the Himalayan range before descending through alpine meadows and rocky landscapes. The journey will then take you back through inhabited areas like Bhimthang and Dharapani. Finally, your trek will end in Besisahar. Upon reaching there, you will take a ride back to Kathmandu.

Which is the Best Season For Trekking in Manaslu

Trekking to the Manaslu region is best during the pre-monsoon (spring) and post-monsoon (autumn) seasons. Both seasons offer the best trekking climates with clear skies and beautiful views.

Spring

The spring season starts in March and continues until the end of May. This is the second busiest and one of the best times for trekking in Nepal. It is the ideal season if you prefer warmer temperatures and blooming flora and fauna. The days are longer, the trails are vibrant with colorful rhododendron flowers, and the clear skies offer stunning views of the Himalayas. However, mornings and nights in early March can be cold, so wear appropriate clothing.

Autumn

Autumn in Nepal spans from September to November, marking the peak trekking season when trails are bustling with visitors. This period enjoys pleasant daytime temperatures and extended periods of clear weather, traditionally considered the optimal time for trekking in Nepal. Monsoon rains wash away dust, enhancing greenery and ensuring clearer skies, perfect for enjoying breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

Aside from these two seasons, we recommend not trekking during summer and winter. The weather is cold and snowy during winter, from December to February. This can make your trek difficult. Furthermore, most of the accommodation providers are closed during the winter. Similarly, your trek can be challenging in summer, from June to August, as you must encounter massive rainfall. This can make your trail slippery, increasing safety problems.
