Overview

‘A motorcycle trip to Muktinath’ instantly shouts ‘adventure’ to all Nepalese and foreigners who have been there before. From lush green vegetation to a moonscape where the altitude dictates our pace, Muktinath no doubt feels worlds apart.

Muktinath, a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists alike, lies in the Muktinath valley and on the lap of one of the most treacherous passes in Nepal -Thorong La Pass. For Hindus, it is the place of Salvation and liberation; Buddhists believe that the founder of Tibetan Buddhism,’ Guru Rimpoche,’ also known as Padmasambhava, meditated here on his way to Tibet.

Muktinath is located in the northern part of the Annapurna region of Nepal; this Himalayan odyssey has much to offer. One of the famous pilgrimage tours in Nepal is a temple dedicated to lord Vishnu. This temple is the best Muktinath has to offer. The Muktinath temple also has 108 sacred waterspouts where pilgrims take a ritual bath. Although, unlike the other regions in Annapurna, the mountain view is still quite a sight. Of all the tours in Muktinath and places in Nepal, a journey to the Forbidden Kingdom on a motorcycle is filled with natural beauty and adventure like any other trekking adventure Nepal offers.

Our journey starts in the lake city of Pokhara, passes through the Thakali village of Marpha, and ends at Muktinath, the gateway to the only remaining forbidden kingdom in Nepal,  Lo Manthang.

Our motorcycle tour to Muktinath was exactly what we hoped for. The journey was demanding but incredibly rewarding. The only downside was some unexpected weather challenges, but these added to the adventure rather than detraction.

FAQs

Trip Information

Attraction of Muktinath Tour

There are plenty of attractions on the Muktinath Tour. For one, the temple is the second most significant temple to Hindus after Pashupatinath in Nepal. It is also sacred to Buddhists. The temple attracts thousands of pilgrim visitors from all over the world to the Muktinath yatra. To top it off, the views of 8,000-meter peaks such as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri make the tour aesthetically pleasing.

How to go to Muktinath temple?

There are several ways to reach Muktinath temple. You can tour Kathmandu by car or fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. You can either opt for the Muktinath trek or drive to Muktinath on a jeep tour. If you have limited time, a Muktinath helicopter tour can be another option.

.

What Can You Expect from the Muktinath Adventure Tour?

Muktinath tour package differs from treks in the region in many ways. In this tour, you will pass through a range of vegetation, from lush green forests in the capital of Mustang, Jomsom, to the mountain deserts of Muktinath temple. You will pass by the Kali Gandaki River, which forms the Kali Gandaki Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world. Furthermore, you can enjoy panoramic views of the valley and the Himalayas.

Preparation for Muktinath Darshan by Jeep

You don’t need to prepare much for Muktinath Darsan by Jeep. As you travel in a vehicle, you won’t require any trekking gear, such as poles, crampons, or boots. However, since Mustang is a cold region, you should carry warm clothes and wind protectors, as the place is known for its wind gusts.

Useful Information

Best Season to visit Muktinath

The best seasons to visit Mustang are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Spring falls right after winter, and the weather is quite pleasant. As the Mustang region is quite arid after you pass Jomsom, you may not see a lot of colorful flowers on the way, but the weather is fine as it can be. The autumn season falls right after the monsoon, and you can see cl,  energetic and vibrant.

The rain washes away most of the strain. The monsoon season is best avoided as the region is prone to landslides and worsening road conditions. The winter season is also best avoided as it brings a lot of cold wind, and the temperature can drop as low as -10 degrees. Thus, picking the time for Muktinath makes it a thrilling adventure.

Meal

Considered an upcoming and one of the best tours in Nepal, this Mustang district offers you a wide range of meal options. Unlike trek in Nepal, this region has options for food and accommodation, mainly due to the access to roads in this region. You will have a choice of local Nepali meals, typical thakali meals, and some Western offerings.

Accommodation Facility

The Muktinath pilgrimage tour is one of Nepal’s most popular tours for domestic and international travelers. Thus, accommodation facilities have been improving in the region ever since. The tour offers accommodations ranging from well-maintained teahouses with all the basic facilities to some available luxury offerings. The teahouses are basic lodges with shared rooms and bathrooms but are well maintained. The luxury offerings provide the required amenities.

Difficulty Level

The difficulty level of the Muktinath motorcycle adventure is pretty demanding. En route, there is a mixture of decent roads and some demanding off-road sections, and the tour takes us to an altitude of 3762 meters. Although we traverse a total of 720 kilometers from Kathmandu to Muktinath in this renowned adventure, the difficulty of the terrain makes it feel like a bit more.

Requirements of Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory in all cases. Please pick the right insurance company with all the required coverage, such as helicopter rescue and coverage up to the elevation you are visiting.

Altitude Sickness and Remedies

Although you will not go to high elevations on this tour, as you will only visit Muktinath temple and not Upper Mustang, you must be wary of the precautions and remedies. The best way to avoid any illness due to elevation is to cover distance slowly and take ample rest. The region of the holy Muktinath temple is quite arid, and we have to ensure we are hydrated to the optimum.

Packing List, Gears, Equipment

Since Muktinath Darshan is an inland trip, so you won’t need dedicated trekking gear such as poles and boots. However, it is recommended that you carry thermals, puffer jackets, comfortable trousers, woolen socks, hats, and gloves. You are also advised to carry sunshades and sunscreen since the region has gusts of wind.

Muktinath Darshan Booking Procedure

You can book the Muktinath Darsan Package directly from our website or make the payment online. You can also email or call us directly to make wire transfer payments for your advance payments. For the remainder of your payment, you can use a card (Visa, Master, or American Express). However, a 4 percent transaction fee is charged through a card.
