Overview
The Everest base camp trek is one of Nepal’s most popular high-altitude routes. It takes you to the foot of the Worldโs tallest peak, Mount Everest, and is a boast-worthy experience as the base camp sits at 5400 meters. The trek is full of spectacular panoramas of mountains and the endearing Sherpa settlement. The trial elevates the Dudh Koshi valley to Namche Bazaar to Kala Patthar (5555m)– the towering point of our trek. For adventure enthusiasts, no place could be better than this. Along the trail, we reach Tengboche Monastery, the highest monastery in the Khumbu region. We also come adjacent to four of the worldโs six tallest peaks: Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse, Mt Makalu, and Cho-Oyu.
The trek to Everest Base Camp takes place within the Sagarmatha National Park. Yet, the journey begins with the kicking of a short flight from Lukla, the gateway to Everest, guaranteeing you chill while landing on the narrow airstrip on a cliff. After reaching Base Camp (5365m) and conquering Kala Patthar, we return leisurely to Namche and finally to Lukla for our return flight to Kathmandu.
Upon reaching our destination, Everest Base Camp, the mammoth Everest, and other mountain ranges that stand tall before your eyes are worth the challenge and effort. Trekkers in good shape and with little experience trekking in high altitudes can also take this trip. However, Everest Classic Trek would be the best choice for trekkers with average physical fitness. Furthermore, Everest High Passes Trek is ideal for adventurous hikers who love taking up challenges.
Itinerary
We take an early morning flight to Lukla which is where all Everest treks begin. After we land in Luka we meet the rest of the team including our porters and get set for the trek. We walk on a trail that gradually descends to Cheplung village, from where we can get a brief view of Mt. Khumbila. It is a sacred mountain that has never been climbed. From here on, we gradually descend to Phakding.
After breakfast, we continued our trail, passing through a pine forest and Benkar Valley. We cross the Dudh Koshi River, and after passing through the villages of Chumoa and Monjo, we reach the entrance of Everest National Park. The trail then ascends steeply, and after ascending for a while, we reach Namche Bazaar, the biggest town in the Everest region. We stayed the night in Namche Bazaar.
We spent more days in Namche Bazaar to acclimate to the high elevation and the thinning air. We take a tour of the town, which has everything in its locker, like ATMs, internet cafes, restaurants, government offices, etc. We also tour Sagarmatha National Park and enjoy the views of Mt.Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde, and many more. We also visited the Hillary School and monastery, which houses a yeti scalp. We can also hike to Khumjung village if time permits. We stayed the night in Namche bazaar.
We have an early morning breakfast and start the trek with the well-known descend to Dudh Koshi River and the equally impressive ascent through rhododendron forests to Tengboche. We can get clear views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku while descending the Dudh Koshi River. Once we reach Tengboche, we will visit Tengboche monastery, the largest monastery in the Everest region. We stayed the night in Tengboche.
Today, we descend through a forest of birch, conifers, and rhododendrons with views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam to give us company. The trail then dives into Imja River and takes us to Pangboche. We ascend to upper Pangboche, where there is Pangboche Monastery. The trail leads us to Imja Valley, Lobuche River, and Dingboche. We stayed the night in Dingboche.
Today, we took a day off to acclimate to the thinning air and high altitude. It is vital to let the body get used up to the surroundings. We hike up to Nangkartshang Peak, which lies just above Dingboche. It is also a great viewpoint from where we can view the striking Ama Dablam. We can see Ama Dablam from head to toe if the weather permits. We can also use this day to tour the surrounding villages.
We continue the trail that leads to the lateral moraine of Khumbu Glacier and pass by stone memorials dedicated to the climbers who have lost their lives doing expeditions. We continue our climb and head towards Lobuche at the foot of Lobuche peak. We stayed the night in Lobuche.
We have a difficult day since we walked along the Khumbu Glacier up to Everest Base camp. This is the closest you can get to Mount Everest without actually doing expeditions. During the springtime, we can see colorful tents of expedition teams against the grey surroundings. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from the base camp is quite a beautiful sight. We return to Gorak Shep, where we stay the night.
Today is the hardest part of the trek, and to our content, it is the most rewarding as well. We started early on our climb to Kala Patthar, which has a small peak of 5,555m. The ascent is quite steep, but we will be rewarded by spectacular views of Mount Everest, which towers before us at 8,848m. Alongside Everest, we will be surrounded by peaks such as Nuptse, Lhotse, Chagatse, Pumori, and many others. We do a short descent back to Gorak Shep to have lunch and trek back to Pherice where we stay the night.
We leave the majestic mountains behind us and descend to Namche Bazaar through Pangboche and Tengboche. It is the same trail that we ascended, but the views are one to savor. We arrive in Namche in the afternoon where we stay the night.
Today is the last day of trekking, and we return to Lukla, the starting point of our trek. We have plenty of time today to roam about and appreciate our personal and the teamโs achievements on the trek. We can have a few celebratory drinks in the evening as well. We stayed the night in Lukla.
We catch the earliest flight to Kathmandu possible, allowing us to catch a last glimpse of the mountain ranges. It takes us around 35 minutes to reach Kathmandu.
You also have the option to extend the trip by doing tours and going on a jungle safari. In the evening, Naata Trek and Tours will organize a THANK YOU farewell dinner program where we can recall the beautiful memories of the trip and have a good time all together.
Our trip concludes today, and a Naata Trek and Tours representative will escort you to the international airport for your departure.

Challenges during 14 Days Everest Base Camp Trek
The Everest Base Camp Trek is a physically and mentally demanding journey. It takes reasonable health and fitness and requires no prior trekking experience to complete the trek. The whole trek covers approximately 130 km round trip distance. Generally, it is a 12-day to 15-day trek. The trekking trails to Everest Base Camp have steep, narrow sections with rough and rocky terrains. Trekking on these rough pathways for 5 to 6 hours daily during the trek is much more challenging, and reaching Everest Base Camp is more leisurely said than done. The higher you go, the more difficult it gets.
As you go higher, the trails become narrower, with steep drops and icy slopes. The weather also becomes unpredictable. Sudden strong breezes, temperature drops, rainfall, or snowfall can further make the Everest Base Camp Trek challenging. The high elevation can also affect the trekkers, who may start experiencing altitude-related sickness. The decreasing level of oxygen and reduced air pressure are the main reasons behind altitude sickness.
The trails get rougher and more challenging when you begin your hike to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Thus, you can put an extra day in the itinerary as a spare day for the trek. Hence, trekkers must thoroughly understand the challenges of the Everest Base Camp Trek to better prepare for it. It helps them to make proper physical, mental, and gear preparations to overcome the difficulties.
Best season for EBC Trek
Take a look at the different seasons and weather conditions for the Everest Base Camp Trek:
Spring season (March to May)
Spring is among the best times for the Everest Base Camp Trek with its blooming rhododendron forest trails. The weather is clear and pleasant, and visibility is clear. The days are sunny, bright, and warm. Moreover, the season is dry, as the precipitation level is low. The highest temperature is around 20ยฐC during the daytime. But during the nighttime, the temperature can drop to -5ยฐC.
Autumn season (September to November)
Autumn is another best time to trek to Everest Base Camp, with its crisp weather and stable temperature. The daytime temperature is around 25ยฐC, which can drop to -10ยฐC at night. It is a peak trekking season, and the trails are busier. The landscape looks vibrant, fresh, and luscious. There is minimal rainfall, so the visibility is apparent. The biggest Nepalese festivals, Dashain and Tihar, also fall during autumn, adding to the already enjoyable trekking experience.
Summer season (June to August)
The summer season is an off-season for trekking due to heavy rainfall and muddy trails. The days are hot and humid, but rain makes trekking challenging. Likewise, there is a risk of landslides, mudslides, and floods during summer. The heavy rain clouds also obscure the views, and visibility is abysmal. So, it is not an ideal time for EBC Trek. The daytime temperature is around 27ยฐC, and the nighttime temperature is 5ยฐC.
Winter season (December to February)
Winter is also another off-season for trekking. The higher elevation regions start to receive heavy snowfall, and the temperature plunges below the freezing zone. It can reach below -20ยฐC at night, and the average daytime temperature can range at 15ยฐC. There is also the risk of avalanches and high mountain passes getting blocked in winter. While the harsh weather does make trekking challenging, many experienced trekkers choose winter for an adventurous trek experience.
