Overview

Walk the unbeaten trail of Tsum Valley. Explore the unexplored Gompas and hear the unheard stories…

Attractions

This Trek takes you into the majestic surroundings of Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and Boudha Himal ranges.

Used to be an important trade link with Tibet

There is surprising polyandry practice among Tsumbas.

The secret Tibetan Buddhist land lying at the edge of one of the most secluded Himalayan Valleys in the world.

Lying in the northern part of Manaslu, Tsum Valley is one of the world’s remotest Himalayan Valleys. Tsum Valley being a restricted region until 2008 is raw and undiscovered by lot of trekkers. There are not many footsteps on the trekking trails of Tsum Valley. That fact makes it an ideal choice for those who want to be ‘one with the nature’.

The religion, art, lifestyle, monasteries, prayer flags, all of Tsum Valley portray the Tibetan culture, as the valley was part of Tibet once. The people of Tsum Valley known as Tsumbas belong to Tibetan origin. They have their own unique form of dialect, art, culture and religion. This mysterious valley is completely different from all the trekking routes as one can find. Variation is not only in culture and lifestyle but also in geography, landscape and vegetation. There is a practice of polyandry among Tsumbas where all the brothers in the family are married to a single girl.

The best of Manaslu

This 18 days long trip begins with the sightseeing of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu but the real adventure embarks after a seven hours drive to Arughat, which is the starting and ending point of our trek. The first part of the trek ascends the Budhi Gandaki Valley on a good trail through a mix of dense forests, terraced fields and hill villages. After we leave the main Manaslu trail for Tsum Valley, suddenly we get the feeling of entering absolutely into the hidden valley. While on the trail, we get to see beautiful rhododendron forests, pine forests, alpine forests and glacial rivers along the way. However, the Himalayas play ‘hide and seek’ with us throughout the trail. We pass the lower Buri Gandaki regions of Liding, Machhakhola, Jagat and Philim. We also visit the ancient monasteries of the region like Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa and Dephyudonma Gompa.
