Itinerary
We will have a trip orientation at breakfast and then we will travel to one of the villages of Gorkha which lies at the epicenter of the earthquake. We will be using 4WD jeeps and we will have to walk for a few hours as well. The journey from Kathmandu to Gorkha will take us around 8-9 hours. We will be focusing on five villages: Aruchanaute, Arbang, Manbu, Thumi and Arupokhari. We will decide whether our group will go to one village or more depending on the size of our group.
We will start to rebuild homes today for the next four days. We won’t be indulging in works that require technical skills but will do simple activities such as painting walls, mixing sand and cement, carrying house building equipments such as cement, bricks, stones etc. We will be hiring professionals to do the technical bit but if you have building skills then you can help them as well.
We will try and re-use the available resources like woods, bamboo, stones, rods from the damaged houses which will reduce the amount of cost for the rebuild so that we can utilize the funds for other essential stuff. We will be building eco-friendly houses as much as possible by utilizing the available natural resources.
Our main motive for the trip is to help rebuild the houses of the locals and you can help out in anything you feel essential. We will camp tonight in Gorkha.
On this day, 4WD jeeps will transfer you to Pokhara, the Lake City of Nepal. It is the starting point of treks in Annapurna region. Since the effect of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake is less in and around Pokhara, trekking to Poon Hill is possible.
This day is the start of your trek in Annapurna region. At first, take an hour drive to Nayapul and the trek will begin. You will walk along the banks of rivers and pass through beautiful Nepali villages as the trail steadily climbs up to the village of Ulleri. This is the place where you will spend the night. Today’s walk is relatively short and easy, a prelude to the trekking experience in the Annapurna region.
The trail ascends more gently from Ulleri towards Banthanti. You will pass through fine forests of oak and rhododendrons. After walking for 5 hours, you will arrive at today’s overnight village, Ghorepani.
On this day, very early in the morning, you will start hiking to Poon Hill. This vantage point provides an unobstructed view of the sunrise over the high Himalayas. The sunrise spectacle is breathtaking. After spending an hour at Poon Hill, return to Ghorepani, have breakfast and start trekking. You will make a climb along ridges, pass through pine and rhododendron forests, and then descend to Ghandruk.
After a night at Ghandruk, the second largest Gurung village and one of the most popular villages in Nepal, you will head off to Nayapul. Your trekking in Annapurna region comes to an end on this day. The trail descends towards Nayapul. You will arrive at this place after 5 hours. And then, a drive after you will be back in Pokhara.
You will be driven back to Kathmandu from Pokhara on roads that go along the trishuli river. In the evening there will be a THANK YOU farewell dinner organized by Naata Trek and Tours.
The trip concludes today and our airport representative will drop you at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight departure from Nepal.
