Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

Overview

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

We’ll reach on the foot of Mt Kanchenjunga (8585m): Third highest mountain in the world

The avalanches at Kanchenjunga are said to be the largest.

It rewards us with the peculiar insight into rural Nepalese lifestyle of the country’s eastern region.

Mt. Kanchenjunga is appraised to be one of the most beautiful mountain massifs in the world

“Kang-chen-zod-nga”, means “five great treasures of the snow“, which is in mention of the five summits that make Kanchenjunga. Kanchenjunga which stands majestically at a height of 8585m is world’s third highest mountain. To the locals, this gigantic mountain is the house of gods who grant prosperity and goodwill on them and their lands, whereas to climbers, the phrase “five great treasuries of the snow” takes on a slightly more gloomy tone.

Located in the far north-eastern corner of Nepal, Kanchenjunga circuit trek is a heaven for trekkers who love walking through the ‘road less travelled’. It’s an amazing bounty for trekkers who love solitude. And with our experience of serving we have found that the one’s choosing Kanchenjunga circuit trails are the quiet trekkers who want to lose themselves into nature’s beauty.

We begin the journey to Kanchenjunga with a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar and from there toTaplejung (Suketar). From Suketar the trek guides us to Chauki through the villages of Mitlung, Ghunsa, Khambachen and Lhonak to Pangpema: the base camp for expeditions attempting the North Face of Kanchenjunga II and the culmination of the first part of the trek.

Kanchenjunga circuit trek exposes us with the farawayness, spectacular mountain scenery, diverse flora and fauna which are as satisfying as could be.

Interesting Fact:

Since the locals worship the mountain, there is a tradition among mountaineers not to stand on the actual summit. All successful climbs have stopped just short of the summit honoring an old promise made by the leader of the first successful attempt in 1955 to the Maharaja of Sikkim.
